2011-12 finishes on a bright note.
Saturday 14th April - Fun Day and season final.

Despite the dark sky and imminent threat of a drenching, crews elected to sail anyway and were rewarded with a great afternoon's sailing with a whisper of breeze, friendly competition and a magnificent ambience as the sun broke through the clouds and lit up the river and fleet. Glimpses of the sparkling water and glowing sails were beautifully captured in a number of Dan's photos - so be sure to check them out.

Congratulations to Paul Smythe and Dave Elliot for winning their respective divisions. Our handicapper did a great job with most of the fleet converging near the finish.

At a relatively informal AGM following the race, Commodore Karl Cooksley reflected on a very successful season that started out precariouly but just kept getting better and better as membership and race nominations skyrocketed in the latter weeks. Much of this was due to the introduction of Open Bics as our new junior training class and the welcome arrival of a number of new members travelling from out of town.

He also announced our winning of a state gov't sporting grant that will allow the club to purchase an additional three Bics and double the size of our junior fleet.

At the election of officers that followed all positions were retained by the existing committee and Karl thanked them for their hard work and dedication. Of particular note is Bob Fish who has done a magnificent job of both secretary AND treasurer as well as officiating racing and running the canteen. Well done Bob.

For anyone who didn't get a copy of Deb's 2011-12 A Year in Pictures DVD - make sure you do. It's a superb record of the year's sailing - and many thanks also to Dan for capturing the hundreds of images if contains. Very few clubs in any sport would have a visual diary of their activities as good as this.

Also on behalf of all members, a big thanks to Commodore Karl for his leadership and enthusiasm which has kept the club powering along despite floods and other hardships .. and to Vice Commodore Dennis Boyd for all his assistance in the background - from keeping the clubhouse and lawns in top condition to attending to all those details that we too often take for granted.

Sailing is now in recess until 1st September but we look forward to seeing everyone back out on the water for an even bigger and better 2012-13.

YA Sailing Survey
With clubs struggling to hold membership numbers, YA recently commissioned a survey to gauge Australian's perception of saling as a sport. The attached summary provides some interesting insights, the problems we're facing and the way forward. For example, did you know that sailing only rates 34th in sports participation in Aus.?

CRSC Olden Days

Proud Achievement
The following article appeared in the now defunct Big River Express on 1st March 1973.  It's a wonderful reminder of club's strength nearly 40 years ago.  With a register of over sixty boats it was one of the largest sailing clubs in country NSW - which is an amazing feat given our location over 60 km's upstream from the coast.
